NDLEA Nabs 28-year-old Single Mother for Ingesting 1.1kg of Drugs

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in a statement has announced its apprehension of at least five suspects for allegedly trying to smuggle banned substances out of the country. The combined weight of thedrugs the suspects attempted to traffic was 7.1kg and it consisted of 1.1kg of methamphetamine and 6kg of cocaine.
According to the statement signed by the NDLEA’s Head of Public Affairs, Ofoyeju Mitchell, a 28-year-old single mother, Udoka Peace Egbuchelam, and four other suspected drug traffickers have been apprehended over alleged ingestion of 398 wraps of narcotics. They were apprehended at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.
The statement stated that the single mother ingested 73 wraps of methamphetamine weighing 1.1kg. Meanwhile, the NDLEA’s Airport Commander for Abuja, Hamisu Lawan, said Udoka and one other passenger, Ezechi Chinedu Nwabueze, 45, were to board Ethiopian Airline flights to Malaysia and Istanbul, while the other suspects were caught during inward screening of passengers.
However, the statement pointed out that Udoka claimed to have gone into the drug business to pay her 5-year-old daughter’s tuition fees. She was quoted as saying: “Since my arrest, I have been worried because I do not know how she is coping without me. The people that gave me the drug promised to pay me the sum of 2,700 dollars.”
