Police Scatter Secret Cult Initiation Meeting

Police in Ogun State yesterday said they had dislodged about 53 suspected members of a secret cult in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Members of the secret cult are students of some tertiary institutions in some parts of the country and were alleged to have arrived in Abeokuta to join their colleagues for onward movement to the venue of their ritual ceremony.
The police intercepted them following a tip-off by the state branch of the National Association of Seadogs, popularly called “Pyrates’ Confraternity”.

The police spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, said policemen laid ambush for the suspects about 11:30pm last Friday around Lafenwa roundabout in Abeokuta and intercepted them.
Adejobi, who said none of the suspects was arrested, added that they abandoned their vehicles, which contained some items for their outing and fled in different directions on sighting the police.
Some of the items recovered from the fleeing culitsts included coolers filled with already prepared food as well as drinks meant for the ceremony.
Stressing that the fleeing suspects were not members of any social club, the police spokesman advised students to shun criminal activities.
