BRT lane: Taskforce charges 42 motorists to court

At least, forty-two motorists who plied the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane were yesterday arraigned in court by the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit. The taskforce had earlier acquired patrol vans to monitor the lane and arrest recalcitrant motorists who still ply the BRT dedicated lane, in spite of several warnings by the government.
The 42 motorists were arrested on the BRT corridor between Ojota to CMS during peak hours as the state government stepped up enforcement of the law prohibiting motorists from plying the prohibited dedicated routes.
Thirty-four of the motorists who pleaded guilty to the offence had already convicted and slammed fine between N10,000 and N30,000 by the Special Court in Alausa.
Speaking on the development, the Taskforce Chairman, Bayo Sulaiman, Chief Superintendent of Police, said the government would no longer allow anyone to violate the established law like plying of BRT lane by private or commercial motorists other than those excluded by the law.
