Police Smash Robbery Syndicate, Recover Stolen Items

The Cross River State Police Command on Saturday said it had arrested three armed robbery suspects who specialised in robbing factories manufacturing industrial equipment.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kola Sodipo, at a briefing in Calabar, said the command arrested the three-man syndicate with some stolen equipment and raw materials.
He listed the items recovered as four 25-litre kegs of grease, 17 spindle pins, 16 bundles of drilling rollers, eight cartons of drilling pins, two excavators’ fingers and two truck tubes.
Others, according to him, are one gas pump, four bold caps, one star iron, two-litre container containing raw acid, one turbo bus with number plate XA 651 AFG and one red Q-link motorcycle, marked QS 13 CAL.

Sodipo gave the names of the suspected robbers as Michael Eworo, Stanley Ebighem and Ubong Udoma from Akamkpa Local Government Area of the state.
Sodipo, who spoke through the commands’ Public Relations Officer, Mr. John Umoh, said, “A gang of three thieves broke into the store of Brothers Quarry at Akamkpa and stole items worth millions of naira.
“Since they could not immediately evacuate the items, they had to arrange with their cohort, who came with a bus to assist in conveying the items which were already hidden in the nearby bush.
“Luck ran out on them when the police patrol team accosted them on a Q-link motorcycle trying to escape with two cartons of the stolen items.
“On sighting the police, they zoomed off at high speed and the police gave a chase. The thieves later abandoned their bike with the items and escaped into the bush.”
He added that preliminary investigation revealed the owner of the bike was Michael Eworo of Awi, and when he was arrested, he (Eworo) took the police to the house of Ebighem in Akamkpa town and Udoma in Nsan junction.
Sodipo said the suspects would be arraigned as soon as investigation was completed, adding that the command’s resolve to rid Cross River State of crimes remained strong.
