Denis was alleged to have perpetrated criminal activities in Delta, Edo and Anambra states before his arrest.
The suspect was arrested by the police at the premises of the First Bank branch at the Kogi State University, Anyingba, while attempting to withdraw N1.5 million believed to be the ransom deposited to his account by relatives of a victim.
The victim is a wife of a professor.
The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hilary Opara, told journalists yesterday in his office in Lokoja that the suspect travelled all the way from his hideout in Ozoro, Delta State, to Anyigba to withdraw the money.
He said that the suspected kidnapper had been on wanted list of over three police commands in the country for criminal activities.
Opara described the suspect as a notorious criminal, adding that he once escaped from the police custody in Delta State before he met his waterloo in Anyigba.
Stressing that Kogi borders over 10 states in Nigeria, the police boss said security agents had arrested about 12 suspected armed robbers in the last three months between Okene in Kogi and Ukpella in Delta State.
Opara said that the stretch of road between Okene and Ukpella had been the worst flash point in terms of armed robbery, kidnapping, car snatching and other criminal activities.
He, however, advised road users to exercise extra care while plying the road.
The police commissioner said: “The Okene-Lokoja Road is another flash point. The Kogi State Command has stationed patrol teams along the route to check criminals.”
Opara added that some Fulani herdsmen used their cattle to block the road and robbed unsuspecting road users and thereafter disappear into the bush.
