I’m Reaping Reward Through My Son – Oboabona’s Father

Father of one of the latest soccer stars in the country, Mr. Jonathan Oboabona, has said that God has decided to reward his soccer talent through his son, Godfrey. The young Oboabona featured for Nigeria in the just concluded African Cup of Nations in South-Africa.
Oboabona who shared his experience in an interview with our correspondent on Wednesday said he relocated to Ondo town since 1966 from Ohodua in Esan South East Local Government area of Edo State. He described himself as a football addict.
He said his love and passion for football made him to encourage all his five male children including Godfrey who is the youngest of them all, in to engage in sporting activities.
Apart from Godfrey, Oboabona said two of his sons – David and Daniel – are also deeply involved in sports and had represented Ondo in national competitions. He described Daniel as a volleyball star while David is good in badminton, javelin, and cricket among others.
He said, “I congratulate my country, Ondo State, and my son, Godfrey who is the youngest of my seven children because it was a surprise but fulfilling to me that one of my sons is among the players, who brought glory to our great country.
“Within my I had always known that the boy was a star since he was born. I had seen the soccer interest in him since he was a toddler and I encouraged him. When he was in the primary school, he used to play football both in the sun and in the rain and he would stay there whether he eats or not. I didn’t stop or discourage him.
“All his brothers are sports-loving people, even his elder brother, Daniel, plays volley ball, another brother, David plays lawn tennis, badminton and hockey for Adeyemi College of Education and he had featured in the state competition in the past.
“Godfrey, our baby of the house is very gentle, loving and respectful, even when he was in Akure, he would call me every day to know how I was faring. We spoke almost every day while he was abroad; he is a good son.
“We assist him a lot in prayers. Everybody in the family watch him play all the matches and we support him with prayers before and after each match. I am a Catholic. The secret of our success is prayer to my God for him and God has really answered our prayers concerning him.”
Oboabona said Godfrey decided to buy a Toyota Camry car for him last year “when he discovered that after retirement from Adeyemi College of Education in 2004 having worked for 31 years, I was still going about on Okada (motorcycle).”
He said the dream of the family for him was for the new soccer star to secure an engagement with a club in Europe.
Godfrey’s mother, Mrs Victoria Oboabona, a petty trader said she was very happy for her son and specially commended Coach Stephen Keshi for exposing her son to limelight.
She said, “I thank God for him, he has been playing football since 2yrs of age, he would not let me rest until I buy ball for him every time, from his primary school days, and I supported him, despite the fact that he always got injuries.
“At a point I felt like stopping him from playing football; I always felt like crying whenever he got injured. I would shout at him asking why he was putting himself in trouble. And in all he would say ‘mama don’t worry just leave me alone’.
“So I would let him alone and pray for him. I used to pray and fast because of him whenever they wanted to go for any football competition.”
And going by the windfall from the African cup for Godfrey and the rest of Eagles it was good that he was left alone to play his football.

Lessons from Pope’s resignation

The sudden resignation of the pope or abdication of his authority or papacy or reign came to all Catholic faithful and indeed religious people all over the world as a shock. This the pontiff attributed to old age and his inability to be strong to continue in his capacity as Saint Peter’s successor and head of the Catholic fold.

This hasn't happened in the history of the church for 400 years. This brings to mind the recent retirement of His eminence Anthony Cardinal Okojie, Emeritus Archbishop of Lagos, and many other religious and clergymen.
Maturity and an understanding of the rigors associated with their offices informed their decisions. Our prayers is for the Catholics all over the world to be guided by God to have a worthy successor to the pope and grant the pope blessings, favors and sound health in retirement. This we import to our own situation in Nigeria albeit Africa where our leaders and men in authority sit tight and want perpetuation or die in power. Being an ex-leader makes one’s input and opinions well-sought after and encourages one to put one’s house in order in case of the eventuality.
Leadership is about service even in retirement; elder statesmen and other men and women of repute are always a crown to the development of any community or nation. Like the saying goes, health is wealth. Our leaders should know when to call it quits or draw the curtain on their careers for it is better and far honorable to bequeath a legacy in one’s lifetime. A word, they say, is enough for the wise.

Goldie’s Death: Prezzo Devastated, Heads To Lagos

Goldie’s close friend and partner Prezzo is on his way to Lagos, following the death last night of the entertainer and Big Brother alumnus.
Our correspondent in Kenya says Prezzo’s friend, Shaffie Weru spoke to Prezzo’s mum who confirmed that her son left for Nigeria on Thursday night most probably after getting the news of Goldie’s death. Shaffie is a radio presenter with Kiss 100.
We’re told Prezzo, who met Goldie while both were housemates at the Big Brother Africa Stargame in 2012, is ‘beyond shocked’.
Meanwhile another Big Brother colleague Milicent Mugadi says it’s difficult for her to digest the news of Goldie’s death. ‘Later in the day I will organise together with a few friends to have a private mass to remember Goldie.
May she rest in peace. I still cannot digest the news’, she said.

RIP Goldie. Her label Kennis Music release official statement

Statement from the CEO of Kennis Music, Kenny Ogungbe pictured above with the late singer
“With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey. Goldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award. She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7:30pm in the evening.
We consider this period a gloomy moment for us and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstance in which she passed away; the abundance of talent she exhibited in her short but eventful music career and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her. She is survived by her father, step- mother, brothers and sisters. We deeply sympathise with her family and fans all over the world and very grateful to all and sundry, especially, the vibrant Nigerian media for their concern and prompt reportage. We shall keep everybody informed as events unfold as we are devastated by the sudden loss.”
Goldie's remains has been deposited at the mortuary. I'm not blogging today...will only bring you update about her untimely demise. Let's use the whole day to mourn her. Goldie and I recently became friends after she called me for a heart to heart. She was also best friends with one of my best friends, Denrele. RIP, angel. Only God knows why this happened.

'El-Rufai’s book is a collection of fiction' - Atiku Abubakar

Former FCT minister Mallam El-Rufai wrote a memoir titled The Accidental Public Servant which was unveiled in Abuja today, and in the book he criticized a few politicians...one of them former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar. In the book, El-Rufai described Atiku as a corrupt power hungry politician and alleged that he (El-Rufai) had almost resigned as the former Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) because of persistent pressure and interference by Atiku, who was then the Chairman of the National Council on Privatization

Atiku has reacted to the content of the book, calling it a collection of fiction and exaggeration.

It amazes me that El Rufai can pass off fiction for self-gratification at the expense of truth as a book. El-Rufai's attack on my person is to say the least not surprising considering that this is the same man who has notoriety for disparaging religions and their icons, including lately Jesus Christ.

If he could go to such irreverent extent to disparage religious icons, who is an ordinary mortal like me? It is my belief that any man that can cross the boundary of reason and decency deserves prayers rather than anger.”

I wish to state that the book is as a collection of fiction, half truths, exaggeration and reflection of selective memory.

I ‘ll Not Sign 2013 Budget – Jonathan

Abuja: President Goodluck Jonathan has told the leadership of the National Assembly that he will not sign the 2013 budget, Daily Sun learnt yesterday, even as the leadership of the Senate, that of House of Representatives and officials of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government (MDAs) will meet at 2pm today to reconcile faulty and bogus allocations in the budget. The meeting will hold at the Senate complex. The N4.987 trillion budget was passed by both chambers of the federal legislature on December 19, 2012. It was transmitted to the President for assent on January 14, this year.
However, despite the early passage , President Jonathan has declined to sign the Appropriation . Confirming that there are issues with the budget, Minority Leader, House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamilla, said the President has picked a hole in the bill as passed by the National Assembly. He said the President has communicated to the leadership of the National Assembly on some grey areas causing his delay in signing it. A member of the House, who does not want his name mentioned, said that the President rejected the bill and returned it to the National Assembly because of the pegging of oil benchmark at $79 by the legislature. The executive had proposed $75, but that was rejected by the lawmakers.
He said the President was not happy over the zero allocation given to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the budget by the National Assembly. The latter had hinged the zero allocation to SEC on the continued stay in office of the Director-General, Ms. Arunma Oteh . The House had passed a resolution asking the President to sack her, but the recommendation is yet to be implemented. Another grey area, according to the lawmaker, is the N63 billion added to the original budget proposed by Jonathan. The Presidency equally rejected some aspects of the capital project vote particularly the National Assembly Constituency project. In view of the alleged poor-implementation of the capital projects in the 2012 budget, the National Assembly had rolled over the non-implemented aspects of the capital projects, especially the constituency projects into 2013.
The move was turned down by the President who described it as illegal. The National Assembly had approved N4,987,220,425,601 as the 2013 budget. It comprised N387,976,000,000 for statutory transfer; N591,764,000,000 to service debts N2,386,024,770,349 for recurrent (non-debt)expenditure while the balance of N1,621,455,655,252 is for contribution to the development fund for capital expenditure. The figure passed by the two chambers was N63 billion more than N4.924 trillion original proposal presented to the joint session of the federal legislature by the President last October. On how the leadership of the National Assembly is taking the refusal to sign the budget bill, the lawmaker said the issues being raised by the President are being handled by the two chambers. He said:”This budget wahala ‘problem’ has come again.
The President has returned the 2013 budget that we passed before we went for Christmas break. Although the thing is yet to be made known officially to members, those who have seen it said SEC and benchmark issues were among the grey areas. Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, John Enoh, dismissed speculation that the budget has been rejected, saying the bill is still valid. He said: “All I know is that the budget cannot be returned through the window” The principal officers of the House held a marathon meeting on the matter yesterday. The House leadership met today to find a solution to the problem but we are yet to agree on the right step to take”, he said.

EFCC Arraigns Two Fraudsters For N9.1m Scam

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, Thursday arraigned two suspects; Prince Friday Obah, 52, and Nnaemeka Osegbo, 43, before Justice Adebisi Akinlade of the Lagos High Court, Ikeja on a four count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery and uttering.

The suspects allegedly collected N9.1million from one Linus Eze as the cost of clearing two 40 feet containers containing LG brand of Air conditioners and Completely Knocked Down (CKD)  spare parts without delivering the items to him.

One of the charges reads; “ that you Nnaemeka Osegbo and Prince Friday Obah (aka Prince and Princess Inter Limited) at Lagos within the Ikeja Judicial Division with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N7,123,000.00 (Seven million, One Hundred and Twenty Three Thousand Naira) from Mr. Linus Eze by falsely pretending to Mr. Linus Eze that  the money represent the cost of two (2) overtime 40 feet containers containing LG Brand of Air conditioners and completely knocked down ( CKD) spare parts which pretence you knew to be false”.

When the charge was read to them, the defendants pleaded not guilty.

EFCC counsel, Musa Isah, prayed the court for a trail date and that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody. However, counsel to the first defendant, Kazeem Lukman prayed for an adjournment to allow him time to file application for bail.

Justice Akinlade adjourned the case till April 16, 2013 for trial and remanded the accused in prison custody. She however ruled that if application for bail was filed before the trial date, the court will fix another date for bail hearing.

International Travellers Beware: Needles Found in Sandwiches on Delta Airlines

The last thing to expect inside a sandwich served on Delta Airlines is needles.
Delta Air Lines Inc. and the FBI, are trying to figure out how the needles got into turkey sandwiches served on board four flights from Amsterdam. One passenger was injured.
The airline said that what looks like sewing needles were found in five sandwiches. One of the passengers on a flight to Minneapolis was injured, but the passenger refused medical attention, according to Delta spokeswoman Kristin Baur. Other needles were found in two flights to Atlanta and one to Seattle.
The FBI office in Atlanta has opened a criminal investigation into the matter, the agency said in a statement.
Baur said the flight attendants stopped serving snacks as soon as the needle was discovered. Messages were left for other flights on the route from Amsterdam, where the sandwiches had been prepared by a caterer, to not serve the sandwiches. Another sandwich served in the Minneapolis flight also had a needle, Baur said.
After the needles were found, passengers had pizza instead. Baur said the security of the meal production has increased and it is using most packaged foods while the investigation continues.
"Delta is taking this matter very seriously and is cooperating with local and federal authorities who are investigating the incident. Delta has taken immediate action with our catering service in flight from Amsterdam to ensure the safety and quality of food offered on board our aircraft," the airline said in a statement.
The sandwiches are made in the kitchen of Amsterdam Gate Gourmet catering company, and were to be served to business class passengers on Delta.

Couple Arrested After Video Of Them Raping A 4 Year Old Girl Was Found On Their Lost Phone

A lost cell phone leads police to take two dangerous child sex abusers off the street.

Two north Florida "animals" are facing child pornography charges after video shows them raping a 4 year old girl. It was found on a cell phone they lost at a Walmart.

The pictures on the phone shows convicted sex offender, Alan Johnson, 33, and his girlfriend, Jennifer Sparks, 37, abusing the girl "in every conceivable way," said Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott.

"My most experienced detectives here, said it’s the worst they have ever seen," he said.
A buyer found the phone in the shopping cart at a Walmart in Cape Coral and turned it in, police said.
Researchers at the sexual predator unit of the sheriff's department recognized Johnson's phone number because he's a registered sex offender.
Johnson was convicted on child pornography charges in 2003 and was sentenced to more than five years in prison, the news media reported.

In a police search of the house last week it was found that the couple had more images of child pornography and evidence that the two were making videos with a cell phone.
They were charged Wednesday with sexual assault of a child, promoting sexual performance of a
minor and possession of child pornography.

Investigators found the girl in Polk County and gave her o the Department of Children and Families, according to the news media.
Police were investigating reports that the girl's mother gave her to Johnson and Sparks, according to the news media.

"Literally two animals are off the streets, a girl will hopefully now be able to rebuild her life," Scott told the news media.

Youths, Women Protest Killing Of Medical Doctor In Mbaise

Scores of youths and aged women, yesterday blocked the ever busy Owerri-Umuahia federal highway at Nkwogwu, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area to protest the gruesome murder of their son and medical practitioner, Dr. Nonye Nwaise.
The peaceful protest, which lasted over two hours, truncated free flow of traffic on the highway until a detachment of policemen, led by J. P. Modi, a Chief Superintendent of Police, was moved in to restore peace in the area
Dr. Nwaise was a staff of Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, and was attacked and killed at a viewing centre, by three armed men, who were operating on a motorcycle.
All the people who spoke to journalists on the murder fumed over what they termed “the increasing spate of insecurity in Imo State.”
The villagers recalled with grief, how the late doctor attended to the health challenges of the villagers and most times, at no cost to the patients and their relations.
Particularly touching was the participation of a 73-year-old woman, Mrs. Chinyere Ogu, in the protest.
She condemned the killing of the 42-year-old doctor, saying: “He was down to earth during his life time. He was a solid defender of his people, especially the downtrodden. We have truly lost a rare gem.”

Father Agrees to Pay Teen Daughter $200 to Quit Facebook for 5 Months

More and more people are taking a break from Facebook. But not many are getting $200 for the effort. Count Rachel Baier in that exclusive group. The 14-year-old made a deal with her father, Paul. If Rachel stayed off of Facebook for five months, she'd find herself $200 richer.
To make sure everything was above board, a contract was signed by both parties. Rachel will get $50 if she resists the call of Facebook until mid-April. She'll score $150 more if she makes it to June 26. She has given her father her password, which he has changed to prevent her from accessing her account.
According to the contract, Rachel intends to use the proceeds for "stuff." We spoke with Paul Baier about the plan. It turns out, it was Rachel's idea.
"She mostly wanted and needed the money as she has been frustrated by not finding babysitting jobs. She is an honors student but she says Facebook can be distracting." Rachel originally asked for $70, but then, like an expert negotiator, she came back and asked for $200. "When she realized it would be for five months, she wanted an amount that would really excite her," Paul explained. Paul hopes this may start a trend.
"I've realized that she is part of a generation of kids that has grown up on Facebook. She's been on it for two years full time. This is two years of 24/7 teen discussion of friends, clothes, parties, etc. They can't get away from it. I'm proud she recognized the benefit of a hiatus. She plans to go on using it after the contract ends."
The contract expires on the last day of school. So far, she has no regrets.

7 Things You Can Do On Valentine’s Day If You’re Single

There are all kinds of things that keep reminding you that valentine’s day is here from the classic commercial sense, all kinds of pink & red balloons around, love songs playing all the time on the radio, commercials for what to get the special one
If you’re in a relationship, it’s a good reminder and definitely gives some ideas on what you can do for your special one, but if you’re single it’s an annoying reminder that you’re single and even if you don’t care about val’s day, it’s just in your face and you want it to end.
If you’re single and valentine’s day rolls around, you know you’re gonna get bombarded with couples all over the place. Folks receiving flowers, engagement stories, restaurants filled with lovers, etc. Well there’s stuff to do that will definitely get your mind off all that stuff.
You can still do your own thing, and have fun. You don’t have to sit at home and hate every couple, or pout, or drown yourself in ice cream and cheesy romance movies.
Some few ideas below
1. Hit The Scene
Grab your single friends and hit the club scene. There’s always guaranteed to be something popping on vals day, and you can definitely grab a few single friend and hit up bars, pubs, clubs, karaoke bars and lounges. You definitely don’t need a significant other to have a blast in the club.
2. Volunteer
Technically, Valentine’s day is about love. Not just romantic love, but love in general. There are plenty of folks that don’t have any kind of love, and there’s nothing that will make you feel better about yourself than doing some volunteer work that will put a smile on someone else’s face. Motherless babies home, Nursing home, Animal shelter, Food banks. These are just a few ideas.
3. Gym Time
While others might be piling up calories by eating chocolate and ice cream and the likes, you can do the opposite, and hit the gym. A good workout session will shed that stress you might be feeling off, and you’ll end up feeling very refreshed.
4. Watch Movies (Scary Movies)
The farthest thing to think about when watching scary movies, is love. Well, technically, but it sure beats watching romantic comedies. Depending on your mood, you can watch movies by yourself or call up a few friends for movie night. Stack 3 movies together, and you’re sure to kill the night quickly.
5. Treat Yourself
Fine you don’t have a date on valentine’s day, but you still love yourself. Yep. You can spoil yourself a little bit on valentine’s day and feel great about it. A spa treatment, pedicure, shopping, buy something you’ve always wanted. Just something that will put a smile on that face.
6. Spend Time With Family
If you live in the same city as your family, it’ll be a good idea to spend some time with them. Some of my best memories of valentine’s day have been with family, and nothing like some good ole family time.
If you’re too far away to visit family, then give them a call, or even skype with your parents or loved ones if you have the means. They are your first loves anyways.
7. Throw A Party
Throwing a party just might be the ultimate way to have blast on val’s day. But you have to know for at least a week that you’re not doing anything “traditional” on valentine’s day. Hit up everyone, buy drinks, some appetizers, and get to partying. Heck you can spice it up and give it a theme. Fun things.
So there you have it. 7 things you can do on valentine’s day if you’re single.
You don’t want to come off as desperate, bitter, miserable or accept a rush date with someone you really don’t know, sulk and hate on your friends in relationships.
So have fun and make the day worthwhile

Man Quits Job When Mark Of The Beast Number 666 Appears On His Tax Form

Maintenance workers endure a lot for a paycheck, but the Number of the Beast is too grave a problem for one Tennessee man.

Walter Slonopas, 52, quit his job after receiving his W-2 tax form with the number 666 stamped on it, reported The Tennessean.

"If you accept that number, you sell your soul to the devil," Slonopas told the Nashville-based newspaper.

Slonopas worked for Contech Casting in Clarksville. He just wants the company to give him a new W-2 without a 666 on it so he can file his taxes, which he currently refuses to do.
The numbers on the W-2 forms refer to the order in which they were mailed out, according to Bob LaCourciere of Revstone, the corporation that owns Contech.
But for Slonopas — and many other born-again Christians — the number refers to a horrifying event from Chapter 13 of the Book of Revelation, when a satanic beast takes control of Earth and brands everyone with 666.The distressing number has reportedly dogged Slonopas ever since he started working. He was assigned 666 for his clock-in number on his first day in April 2011. But he explained his concern and took a new number.
Then four months later the time-clock system was revamped and Slonopas was assigned 666 again, prompting him to quit. But he returned to work a few days later after the company apologized and gave him a new number.
"It's a desire to be loyal to his faith and to not be identified with the Antichrist," Jay Phelan, a theology professor at North Park University in Chicago, told The Tennessean. "The company ought to find a way to cut him some slack."
After the latest incident, however, Slonopas takes the number's recurrence as a sign, not a mere coincidence. He does not intend to work for Contech again.
"God is worth more than money," said Slonopas.

Preschool Closing After Alleged séx Between 4 and 5 Year Old

A California preschool is reportedly shutting down after disturbing allegations of sèxual activity among several of its 4- and 5-year-old students emerged.
First Lutheran Church of Carson School is closing midsemester amid reports that two boys received oral sèx from a 5-year-old girl on school grounds,
Attorney Greg Owen, who is representing some of the children's families, said the sèxual acts took place at nap time, at a school playground and at an outside bathroom.
"It all boils down to a lack of supervision," Owen told ABC News. "There were times when teachers would let aides in the room for hours at a time to watch the kids. During nap time, the aides would be sleeping, and the children would have been molesting each other during this time."
Owen is representing several parents who are planning to file a lawsuit against the Carson, Calif., school, which has allegedly been cited by the California Department of Social Services for "at least one sèxual incident that involved young students."
School officials told KABC that its decision to close comes after the school director resigned due to personal reasons and has nothing to do with the allegations.
Parent Richard McCarthy says that's far from the truth.
He said his son received oral sèx from the young girl on multiple occasions.
"He told me about all the bad things that girl had been doing to him," McCarthy told the local station. "It went down in the classroom, it went down in the bathroom and it went down out on the playground."
At least one other boy allegedly received oral sèx from the same girl.
"Their lives will be ruined in many ways," Owen told ABC News of the children. "And we know there are many more (victims)."
Parents, meanwhile, are struggling to find new schools for their kids.
"There's no way I can just take him to another school and be that parent that just lets a predator loose," McCarthy said of his son. "How else do you explain it?"
McCarthy said he spoke to three other parents who are worried about sending their kids elsewhere.
"Parents are saying, ‘My child is now a predator. Now how can I let him go to another school?’" he explained.
"There were many children lying there, and they watched these acts. In our business and in psychological terms, that's sexualizing a child at a young age."

The Illuminati Does Not Exist

Rich, successful record producer Russell Simmons says there’s absolutely, positively no such thing as the Illuminati which is exactly what someone in the Illuminati would say!
Simmons — if that’s even his real name — is connected to a whole bunch of people rumored to be in the super-secret society that controls the world including Jay-Z, Beyonce, Kanye, Oprah and others.
So when we asked if he could confirm or deny one of the alleged member or even acknowledge the group’s existence at all. It’s almost like he protested a little too much, saying "Are you kidding me? I’m a grown man!"
Could we translate it like "Yes?" or should we believe that it's true?

WE played BRAZIL, not NIGERIA - Malian goal keeper

True Confession ..

“I feel the team we played against was Brazil and not the Nigeria we used to know. From my post I was seeing more than 15 green shirts pouring forth against us and not the usual 10 players. They were strong, slippery, focused and pacy,” Mamadou Samassa told supersport.com.

“We did our best. We heeded our coach’s instructions but they fell below what was needed to stop the Super Eagles. They were winning all the balls, pursuing us mercilessly each time we had the ball and their finishing was always on target and that was their major advantage. They have forwards that can transform the slimmest goal chances.”
