The Ogun State command of Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, has intercepted 57 sacks of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp concealed in 5kg bag each in the Imeko/Ilara/Aiyetoro border route, valued at N2.3 million.
The NCS also seized contrabands that consisted of frozen chicken, rice, vegetable oil as well as second hand tyres along the Idiroko and Aiyetoro border routes whose Duty Payable Value, DPV, was put at over N29.8 million.
The Comptroller of Customs in Ogun area, Ade Dosumu, stated this at the command’s headquarters in Abeokuta, the state capital, while addressing journalists on the activities of his command and efforts at reducing the incidences of smuggling in the state in the last one month.
Highlighting the particulars of the seizure, Dosumu said smugglers in the state would continue to meet stiffer resistance of the Customs under him until they drop their illicit trade.
Among the contraband seized by the command was 3, 500 cartons of frozen product concealed in a 40 feet container Mercedes Benz truck with registration number: LAGOS LSR 607 XB intercepted at Shagamu area of the state.
Others were 526 bags of rice, 251 cartons as well as 49 kegs of vegetable oil, 314 pieces of second hand tyres as well as clothes and shoes.
Aside that, 498 cartons of assorted imported wines with 434 cartons of body/ hair cream, assorted soap, packages of serviette paper sealed in another Mercedes Benz truck with registration number: ANAMBRA XA 748 NEN, were also among the seizure.
