The two-faced kitten named Deucy was born at “6:11 a.m. on 6/11 under the ‘Gemini’ astrological sign” and after getting a clean bill of health by a veterinarian, Deucy has the best chances of joining 13-year-old Frank and Louie who has a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest living two-faced cat. According to a June 12, 2013, NWCN report, Deucy’s owner is wondering with so many positive signs, if Deucy isn’t meant to be around for a while.
Two-faced kitten Deucy was born in Amity in Oregon on Tuesday. After it was rejected by its mother, owner Stephanie Durkee took over mothering the little two-faced kitten who turns out be be even stronger than its other two normal siblings.
The two-faced kitten is getting warm kitten formula every two hours with a syringe and is eating very well. She is being kept in a dresser drawer with a heating pad and towels, and as part of a kitten’s mothering job, the two-faced kitten’s owner will also most likely do the job of getting the two-faced kitten to pee; not by licking, but by using a soft wet cotton ball to stimulate its urinary tract.
While many veterinarians do not give newborn kittens, especially two-faced kittens, a good survival chance, experience has shown that under good care, one-faced or two-faced kittens can look forward to a long and happy life . Much depends on the owner getting up every two to three hours to do a quite unique "motherly" job.
The two-faced kitten’s veterinarian has given Deucy a clean bill of health and listening to the two-faced kitten’s cries, its lungs are working just perfectly.
“The kitten’s owner Stephanie Durkee took the rare little baby to the vet, who checked her out and found everything in working order . There’s also nothing wrong with the newborn's lungs as she’s a very vocal little kitty.”
Frank and Louie, the two-faced cat who was born 13 years ago, like the two-faced kitten born in Oregon, are called “Janus” cats after the Roman mythology god with two faces.
“Janus cats appear to be conjoined twins, but their condition is actually not the result of incomplete separation of two embryos in the womb. It’s triggered by a protein called sonic hedgehog homolog (SHH). Yes, there’s a protein called the sonic hedgehog protein,” reported BuzzFeed in February of 2013 in an article about 13-year-old two-faced cat Frank and Louie.
Like two-faced kitten Deucy, two-faced Frank and Louie was brought into a pet hospital when he was a just one day old. Today, two-faced Frank and Louie is 13 years old and has a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest living two-faced cat. Maybe eventually two-faced kitten Deucy will join Frank and Louie in the Guinness Book of Records -- the world is rooting for the little two-faced kitten.
