Kerry Washington has been named the World's Best Dressed Woman by People Magazine.
The 36-year-old Scandal star headed a list of style icons that included Academy Award-winner Jennifer Lawrence, singer Solange Knowles and actresses Jessica Chastain and Kate Bosworth.
Discussing her style choices in an accompanying interview, Kerry revealed she prefers to stay covered up and comfortable on the red carpet.
Going for gold! Kerry Washington, pictured in a stunning bright yellow Jason Wu gown in June, has been named People Magazine's Best Dressed Woman In The World
'I don't wear a lot of pants,' she told the publication. 'When I go somewhere I want to know I'm going to be comfortable and I'm dressed appropriately for the event. You're not going to dress the same way at the Inaugural ball as you would at the MTV Awards.'
The star said she enjoys wearing trainers when she's off red carpet duty and prefers not to wear anything too skintight.
'It just doesn't really fit my personality,' said the star, who secretly married NFL star Nnamdi earlier this summer. 'I'm not exposed in my life and I tend not to be overexposed on the red carpet.'
People magazine Executive Editor Elizabeth Sporkin praised Kerry, who favours designers Jason Wu and Vera Wang, for her fashion sense.

Top of the carpet: Jennifer Lawrence, pictured in Christian Dior at this year's Oscar ceremony was named the star with the Best High Fashion Style
'There has been a trend this year in lady-like fashion and I think she is almost single-handedly responsible for it,' Sporkin said in an interview with Reuters.
Kerry's career has gone from strength to strength through roles in TV hit Scandal and Tarantino film DJango Unchained. The star has also been nominated for a Best Actress Emmy Award for her role as 'fixer' Olivia Pope in Scandal.
Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence was named the star with the Best High Fashion Style for her array of stunning designer looks in the last year.
She famously sported a voluminous white Christian Dior gown to the February 2013 Academy Awards which she tripped over while making her way to the stage.

Street style: Solange Knowles looked was commended for her risk taking style and Zoe Saldana was praised for her denim looks
Jessica Chastain, who Jennifer beat to the Best Actress Oscar also gets an honourable mention for her red carpet look.
Solange Knowles, meanwhile, beat her more famous older sister Beyonce to bag a place on the list - being awarded the accolade for Best Risk Taking style.
'She really does push the envelope,' said Sporkin. 'No one else would even think of putting together the looks she wears. She always pulls it off.'
Style maverns: Nicole Richie had the Best Trendsetting Style, while Jenna Dewan-Tatum was commended for her maternity wear choices
Up and comers: Lily Collins, pictured in Cushnie Et Ochs last month, was named as one to watch, while Kate Bosworth's street sense was acclaimed
Zoe Saldana's love of a classy casual look, often worn with her favourite skinny jeans, earned her the title of Best Denim Style, with Chrissy Teigen telling People: 'She doesn't go with the trend. She wins by keeping each look classic.'
Jenna Dewan-Tatum won for Best Maternity Style, Nicole Richie earned the Trendsetting title and Kate Bosworth was commended for Street Style.
'Kate keeps it simple yet detailed,' Demi Lovato told People. 'All you have to do is collect basic pieces and take notes from her on how to spruce it up.'
Top of the flops: Florence Welch's pink and black spotted 'bathrobe' and Kristen Stewart's 'balloony' jumpsuit got them both on the 'Bad Day' fashion list
Rounding off the list, Lily Collins was praised for her Up & Coming Style and Emma Stone for her classic looks.
However, there were a few fashion mis-hits mentioned by the magazine, with Adele's Grammy Award Valentino dress and Kristen Stewart's Stella McCartney 'balloony' jumpsuit singled out for criticism. And Florence Welch's garish Miu Miu pink and black spotted Cannes dress was compared to a 'bathrobe'.
The celebrity magazine compiled the list after getting input from its editors, its 42 million readers and fashion directors and bloggers.
Not a favourite: Adele's choice of a Valentino floral dress to wear to this year's Grammy Awards was regarded as a bad fashion choice
