Photo: Man Claims Vírgin Mary Appeared In His Coffee Cup

A man claims that The Vírgin Mary appeared in his coffee cup as he was finishing his morning coffee, according to press reports.
The Vírgin Mary appeared at the bottom of the coffee cup to a Colombian sailor, it has been claimed.
Rafael Barrios saw the celestial marks as he finished his drink early morning in Cartagena appropriately named The Divine Child workshop.
The business has become a makeshift shrine, with visiting worshipers flocking to the shop leaving lit candles outside the entrance.
Barrios believes that the message was directed specifically to him, as he marked 18 years since his boat capsized and began to pray to the Vírgin.
He told a local radio station: "I was drinking coffee and suddenly the Vírgin appeared. "That was about six in the morning and from that day on a lot of people have come to see the image.

It came to me because I'm dedicated to the Vírgin. Almost 18-years-ago when I was a sailor, my boat almost capsized near Nicaragua, but I put myself in the hands of the Virgin and she saved me."

The marks on his coffee cup has a striking resemblance to the image of the Virgen del Carmen, who is the patroness of the Carmelite order of priests and a common invocation of The Virgin Mary.

This particular Virgin Mary was adopted by fishermen and sailors as their patron saint. In 2004 a toasted cheese sandwich with a Virgin Mary image sold on ebay for $28,000.
